Friday June 22nd, 2012

We needed a guide for the Brady Street tour so I had to send out an "SOS" email hoping that someone could step up and give a tour. I also emailed the guides their schedule for the next two weeks, as usual! In addition, I posted on Facebook about the North Mansion and Third Ward tours. Those are the tours that we really want people to attend because of the beautiful architecture and the fact that we only have it once a week. I have to myself take that tour, the mansions on Lake Drive are just spectacular!

Started doing more Facebook posts after learning that they are really successful! I always though social media is the best way to get the word out. About twice weekly I'm now supposed to post a picture of  a building along one of our tour routes and little blurb on each one. They really interest people and I learn new things myself!

Friday I did not have to go in due to a staff meeting, but I did get some emailing done at home. Again, reminding the tour guides of their dates. I also updated the google calendar with some important info, such as new tour guides. We are completely covered for guides until August, which is great!

Monday June 11th, 2012

Today was a bit more stressful, primarily because I brought my 10 week old puppy Molly with me to my internship...but I digress. I put together the packages (vouchers, member brochures etc) for the businesses in the Third Ward, so hopefully I chose good businesses that would be interested in what HMI does. I also worked on some "social media advertising" aka Facebook sharing pics and statuses. I chose this really interesting picture of Pulaski Street (a Polish neighborhood) circa 1900 with a bunch of kids playing outside and asked my "audience" to take the Brady Street tour to find out what has changed in the 112 years since the picture was taken. I will be doing more picture sharing in the future, which is great because there were so many cool pictures to share that I couldn't pick just one!

Friday June 8th, 2012

I made a Google calendar with each tour guides dates for the Brady Street, Third Ward, and North Point Mansions tour through the month of October. I contacted the tour guides for this and the following week to remind them of their tours. I also made a spreadsheet of Third Ward businesses that would be interested in advertising our tours. What I was told is that primarily cafés/restaurants and boutiques are the ones that primarily advocate tours, so don't waste time and money on postage to send vouchers to a law firm or media company.

June 4th, 2012
The day was pretty much a continuation on what I put together Friday (6/1), that being the packages for the Brady Street businesses. I weighed and stamped them and sent them out! Hoping to get a positive response from the businesses! Hopefully the owners take a tour or they give out the tour coupons to patrons!

Second Day (Friday, June 1st)

Since we had off Memorial Day (5/28), my second day was Friday, June 1st. It was a pretty full day! I put together 50 mail packages for the businesses along our Brady Street route. Tour brochures, ticket vouchers, and membership brochures were what needed to go out. It took a while, but it wasn't stressful work at least! After those were sealed and ready, I drafted emails to professors from Milwaukee- area universities whose classes I thought would correlate well with a walking tour. I contacted 5 professors from the history an art history programs at UWM and  MATC. I hope they get back to me an sign up for tours, especially since I would like my goals and ideas for HMI to come to fruition!
